CEDIA announced Monday that it has named Utz Baldwin to fill the newly created position of CEO. The founder of Houston-based AD Systems, Baldwin will step down as chairman of CEDIA’s board of directors to assume the new position, in which he will serve as the organization’s primary spokesperson.

Capitol Sales Co. announced Wednesday that it will launch a new education program next spring. Called the Capitol Sales Learning Institute, the program will begin in April and be carried out through a partnership with CEDIA University’s CU on the Road.

Retail sales in October dropped 2.8 percent in October, representing both the fourth straight month of decline and a record one-month drop. According to a Washington Post account citing figures from the U.S. Labor Department, sales also dropped 4.1 percent over the same period the year before.

Under pressure from Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, the bankruptcy court overseeing Tweeter has agreed to continue to accept gift cards in the stores through the end of the year, or until its stores close, whichever occurs first.
