The main buzzword at International CES this year is 3D, and the first day of press conferences and events at the confab saw two separate announcements of new 3D television networks.

Sony, the Discovery Channel and IMAX Tuesday announced plans to launch the first-ever dedicated 3D television network, which will debut in 2011. In a separate announcement, ESPN said it will launch a 3D channel of its own later this summer, in time to broadcast the World Cup soccer tournament in June

"ESPN's commitment to 3-D is a win for fans and our business partners," George Bodenheimer, president of ESPN and its parent ABC Sports, said in a statement. "ESPN 3D marries great content with new technology to enhance the fan's viewing experience and puts ESPN at the forefront of the next big advance for TV viewing."
