Features include one movie zone plus two music zones as well as the ability to store up to 75 DVDs or 825 CDs. But the beauty of this system, says Linus Wong, Kaleidescape's director of product marketing, is that it is expandable. Up to 225 DVDs or 2,500 CDs, or any equivalent combination is possible.
“There is no sacrifice in expandibility,” says Wong, of the system that is compatible with the company's larger server products. “They can start with the Mini system and if they fall in love, they can add more [DVDs, CDs, or] players to enjoy movies and music throughout the home.”
Kaleidescape envisioned a niche in the industry for the Mini system when the opportunities in new construction began to dwindle for custom integrators and recognized that these integrators would be landing more jobs in the retrofit market. The Mini system shines in this environment because it does not require open-wall installation.
“This is an integrated component designed to be placed in the living room because installation is easy,” says Wong.
Additionally, Kaleidescape recognized that the population who would most enjoy the Kaleidescape experience was the general population.
“We needed to make our system available to a broader set of customers,” explains Wong. “In order to do that, we needed to develop something easier to install at a lower price point—a more complete solution to fit the smaller budget.”
Wong says that the company “has been very careful to design the Mini to be simple and intuitive.” And the best way to help your customers understand this is to SHOW them.
“We like to say that the system simplifies and enriches your life because it puts all of your music and movies at your fingertips,” Wong says.
Instead of scanning a tower of DVDs or CDs only to find an empty case or never to find it all, Kaleidescape allows you to effortlessly scroll through album or DVD covers to find your selection. With an Internet connection, the company also provides movie and music guides when you load a disc.
Automatic software updates are available as is health monitoring. If there is a problem, the system will “call home” and the company will notify a member of its custom installer network, who will make a house call, if necessary.
