High-end video projection manufacturer SIM2 hosted its top dealers last week at the company's Research and Technology Center in Pordenone, Italy.

“Our main business is still home theater, our main focus never changes- 20 percent of our reinvestment is in human resources and 10% is in research and development,” President and Co-founder, Maurizio Cini said.

This point was not lost on the attending dealers as Michael Silver of Audio High, Mountain View, California said, “That first and foremost, Sim2 is an engineering firm that is constantly innovating.”

“Our projectors are available in nearly every country in the world. Sim2 is currently concentrating on our five big areas of activity: High-end video, Command and control, E Cinema, Solight and Brionvega,” Cini said.

“The U.S. accounts for 30 percent of sales and one of our main areas of excellence is the  research and development of new light valves, laser and LED  technologies,” he added. “Since 1996 we've invested 60 million in innovation and we've consistently driven the market. We are still under original ownership and financially strong. We are able to provide to our dealers knowledge and innovation from all areas of our expertise:-Innovation in projector designs, HDR technology, high power LED outdoor illumination systems, full image management and green products and production.

“Solar energy in this new factory will provide 80% of lighting. In our factory, we decided to create a work environment that is respectful of the environment and of the best possible comfort for our employees.”

Heralding a retro comeback is the Brionvega line. Massimo Zecchin, Director of Sales Worldwide, discussed the history of the Brionvega line.

“The production of the Brionvega is a piece of history. SIM2 acquired the brand years ago and for 40 years it has always been in production. Of course the distribution is different as this is more of a lifestyle centric line. There are several retro designed products in the line including  the Radiocubo that has a central core that is a docking station for an iPhone or iTouch, an Internet radio, and more.”

A real “wow” new technology, that had the dealers riveted, is the new High Dynamic Range (HDR) technology that SIM2 intends to use as a future local dimming technology that can be applied to both flat-panel and LED-based projection systems.

The color and detail were phenomenal and the potential staggering. When the technology will be available to the end-user is yet to be determined.
