Days after the arrest of company VP David Goldenberg on charges that he spied on rival Sapphire Marketing, AMX issued a statement announcing that Goldenberg has been placed on a leave of absence, and that the company will investigate the charges.

“We are surprised and stunned by this news,” the company’s CEO and president, Rashid M. Skaf, said in the statement. “It is the clear and unambiguous policy of AMX that every employee act with the highest moral and ethical standards, and to obey the law in all respects. We have always stressed fair and honest competition, and in no way do we condone any unethical or unlawful behavior.”

Goldenberg was arrested last week in Bergen County, N.J., and charged with unlawful access of a computer System, unlawful access of computer data/theft of data, and conducting an illegal wiretap. Prosecutors say Goldenberg breached Sapphire’s e-mail system and unlawfully obtained information about potential contracts.

AMX also said that Alan Stoddard will take Goldenberg’s place until further notice.
